New mailboxes in Exchange2010 / Office 365 hybrid

Hi,

We have a global Exchange 2010 system running in hybrid mode with Office 365. There were 3 exchange servers - UK (.co.uk mailboxes), Germany - (.de mailboxes) and USA (.com mailboxes).

Due to office closures we had to decommission the UK server infrastructure. I moved all the UK mailboxes into O365, changed MX to point to Office 365 and decommissioned the UK Exchange servers.

UK, Germany and USA users are still in the same GAL though and there are still transport rules and connectors linking O365 and the remaining two regions.

We are also running Azure AD Connect to sync up directory and password from global AD.

My question is this. If I have a new user in the UK and need to assign them a mailbox what is the best way to do it? Directly in O365, on one of the remaining Exchange servers and migrate to O365 or create them as a remote mailbox in Exchange 2010?

Thanks.

Since the UK Users in O365 create all new users in 0365.
If you create the mailbox directly in O365, you will not be able to manage the relevant Exchange attributes from your AD. You still have the same AD/forest for all locations, right?

ASKER

Thanks for the comments guys.

Vasil - That's right, we have the same AD/forest and users/groups are synced to O365 using Azure AD Connect
