Office 365 Word and Excel files won't open from a network drive, but they open locally and using UNC path

- Windows 10 computer, Office 365 installed on the computer.
- Word and Excel files won't open from any network drives. Word or Excel logo flashes and closes. No errors, no logs.
- Word and Excel files open fine from the local machine, or using UNC path.
- Other non-office files open fine from the network drives.
- All profiles on the computer have the same problem.
- Tried a new profile. No luck.
- Tried to uninstall and install Office 365. No luck.
- Tried to disconnect a network drive, and connect. No luck.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

1. What Server environment. All works well here with Server 2012 R2,
2. Try connecting a problem folder by IP address:   NET USE Z: \\IP_of_Server\foldershare.

1. Server enviroment is Windows Server 2012 R2. Office 365 worked well for months. It just stopped working all of a sudden.
2. I can try mapping a drive using and IP address, but I don't really see why would that change anything.
We have zero issues with Server 2012 R2. If it works with IP, then it could likely be a DNS issue
I don't have problems mapping a drive. Other files, like PDFs for example open fine. It's not the DNS.
Run the mapping with a command prompt, record the numerical error and pay back
Again, I don't have mapping problem.
So on this problem computer do the following:

1. Open an admin command prompt and run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth (takes 15 - 20 minutes)
2. Then in the same open command prompt run SFC /SCANNOW.  Allow to complete.
3. Shut down (power off) start up and test.

If connection to files is still an issue, then:

1. Scan thoroughly for viruses.
2. Run a Windows 10 Repair Install. Keep Everything and nothing will be lost.

Go to the Media Creation Link

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Click on Upgrade to Windows 10 (even if Windows 10 is running), click on the Download button, select Open (Run) but NOT Save. It is possible you may need to go to the download location and run the program - it depends on exactly what MCL does (it changes from time to time). Allow the program to run. Allow drivers to update. Then select Keep Everything.
Thanks for trying to help. But your advice is very general. I'm looking for somebody who experienced this same problem and knows the exact solution. Or at least somebody who can give me an idea what is going on in this specific case.
I have not seen any issue like this across several servers and companies and many clients. Just does not happen. Since it is not a connection issue, then there must be something wrong in the operating system, so I laid out tried and true steps to fix operating systems.
To me it looks like it's MS Office issue, since other applications are not affected.
If your system are not patched it could be, otherwise we have so such Office issues doing this. Many client installations.

If you believe Office: then:

1. Repair Office (Control Panel, Programs and Features, Office, Change, Repair).

2. If that does not work, make a new, test Windows User Profile (Account), log into the new Windows Account and set up Office, Test.

/Wow!  Not much to go on then....
I've had the issue that network files appear to be "from the internet" and won't open.  Yet, there is some information provided.
It almost sounds like there could be a security issue.
What happens if you turn off the Windows Firewall on the computer using Word or Excel?
I admit I'm grasping at straws here as I haven't seen this behavior - ever.
I did find some posts online about the exactly same problem, but with older versions of office. None of the fixes worked for me.
Fred I'm like you leaning toward a security issue. Turning off the firewall didn't work. But then if it's a security issue it would be Office security, since all other non-office files open fine.

Good that you fixed your issue. You probably should ask yourself why this occurred. That simply has not occurred in our multiple environment. We do not need to change registry keys to make Office work correctly.

We have experienced this same issue on multiple different computers, so we know if is not a mapping issues. We have this on a brand new computer with a first time login and clean install of O365 Ent 32 Bit. I m a domain admin so have no rights issues. It happens on machines where Office upgrades from 2016 Pro to o365 and on no upgrades with brand new installs. We have had to revert some machines back to Office 2016 so they function. I have spent hours on this issue we really need a fix. If you copy the file to C: it works just fine. I have uninstalled, repaired no change. All computers involded are Windows 2004 just updated and it is hit or miss if it is going to happen. A brand new computer is doing it.
