Hi Andrew,
The ESXi is installed on baremetal

Has this changed since this question because it was on your laptop using VMware Workstation ?

Andrew,
Yes, this has changed. I bought a used PC to install ESXi. The spec is
Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5400 @ 2.70GHz

Hi
The PC is Dell Optiplex Computer Desktop
Any thoughts

Well HYper-V is not compatible with ESXi, but I don't think that's what you mean, if ESXi is installed on bare metal.
It seems the processor does not support Intel VT.
Does it have a function in the BIOS to enable Intel VT.
if this is the processor
http://ark.intel.com/products/40478/Intel-Pentium-Processor-E5400-2M-Cache-2_70-GHz-800-MHz-FSB
it does not confirm if the processor has Intel VT.

Yes it does.. I will take a picture from my phone and show you....
This can be very disappointing, as I purchased this PC soley for this purpose.

Okay, it appears that certain E series processors, E5200/E5300/E5400 only certain Spec codes, have Intel-VT on the chip.
The spec code is SLGTK. This is the only E5400 processor with Intel-VT on chip.

yes, VMware used to have one somewhere..... let me see if I can find it.

OK, this is disappointing news.
I will go back to the seller and ask the question. If the CPU truly does not have Intel-VT I will ask for an exchange.
Thank goodness you showed my how to run ESXi from my PC.
Once again, big thanks to you Andrew...

VMware seem to have dropped the program cpuid.iso

Hello Andrew,
Just wanted to follow up on this thread.
I spoke with the seller of the PC and explained what we discussed regarding the CPU. He suggested it would be cheaper to just purchase a CPU that supported Intel-VT rather than returning the whole PC - which kinda makes sense.
I tried checking the links you provided to find the correct CPU
http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SLGTK.html
http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/QL/QLQG.html
However, those links bring up a page with the following statement:
S-Spec pages were taken down due to continued content scraping.
Do you know where else I can find the correct CPU for my PC?
Cheers

Thanks Andrew,
I've contacted the seller to help determine where to insert the processor as I can't figure out where it goes ... see image

Yes, that is it.
purchase some heat sink paste as well!
and on the replacement CPU, put a small cross (X) of silver paste on the processor... before clamping down again.

is ESXi installed on bare metal or in a VM ?
what CPU do you have ?
what is the server and is it on the HCL ?
You do not have Hyper-V enabled ?
This can occur in a nested ESXi environment, because Intel VT is not being passed to the VM.
You may need to make some modifications to your ESXi configuration
