Quickbooks Management console needed on server?

Hello, we have a client that has single user QB 2016 running on their PCs.  Their company files are stored on a Dell server.  If their company files are stored on the server, does that mean, the QB Management console and SQL database engine are running on the server too?  Thanks.

If you installed the QB Management Software on the server, then yes, this is what it means. Did you install the QB Management Software?

I have no idea.  Does the QB Management console needs to be installed on the server or what does it actually do?  What about the SQL database?  Is it needed to run on the server?

Also, for one single QB Usage, and no other users, you do not really need the QB Management Server,

Will your db performance match your db growth?

In Percona’s white paper “Performance at Scale: Keeping Your Database on Its Toes,” we take a high-level approach to what you need to think about when planning for database scalability.

The QB Management Server is an application you install. As I noted, for a single user, not really needed. And if you do not recall or know, you probably did not install it.

QB Management Server is independent of and has nothing to do with SQL Server

I just checked and there is the QB Database Server Manager installed and running on the server.  Is this needed?

If it installed you can use it. Not really necessary for one user, but you can use it.

Open it and scan for the Company Data File and then QB Client can connect to it.

The issue is not whether we can connect to the database or company files.  QB is working.  My concern is if we need the QB Database Manager and why was it installed on the server in the first place.  If it is a single user only, can we uninstall QB Database Manager from the server because we don't want the QB SQL running.

QB Server Manager can be uninstalled if you only have one user. So yes you can do that.

It won't erase or screw up the existing Company files?  Is the QB Server Manager used only for multiple users?

Make sure your company file folder is backed up (normal practice) but uninstalling the Server Manager will not damage the company files.

One normally keeps a single user on a PC, but you can put the Company File on the server as you have done. In that context, the Server Manager is normally used for multiple users.

Hi there again, can you tell me if QB Server Manager can run on Windows 10 Home version?  Thanks.

It might and you can install it to see, but generally Windows Pro is preferred. Try it to see.

Unfortunately, I don't have the privilege to try it out because we have to decide to purchase the home or pro version.
