How to restart NT services reliably?

This is about the Acronis Backup & Recovery 11. We found that one of the service - Acronis Managed Machine service (mms) sometimes shows "stopping" while kicks start the scheduled backup job. When this service in this state, the only way we can do is to system reboot the server so as the service will be back to normal started state. We did use process explorer to "kill" the mms, however, we still can't manually start the backup job.

Out of no way, we are using the task scheduler to schedule to stop and start 5 Acronis services. Basically are those net stop/net start commands with 30 seconds interval as attached. The sequences are, net stop all the services in this orderly - Acronis Managed Machine service > Acronis Remote Agent > Acronis removable storage management > Acronis Scheduler2 > Acronis VSS Provider; and then net start same services in reverse order.

However, still, the Acronis Managed Machine service shows "stopping" upon the schedule restart. Is there a way that stop this service forcibly? As long as this service is stop, and then re-start shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks,

You can try below to stop the Acronis service.  Run a command prompt with elevated permission.
- sc queryex servicename
- taskkill /f /pid [PID]

BTW, are your Acronis services running using the Local System Account?

Hi Antzs,

Among these 5 Acronis services, think the culprit is "Acronis Managed Machine service" (mms).

All the services are running using the local system account, except the above one, using a domain user account that having a domain administrative privilege. Shall I change to use local system account instead as this Acronis backup software is used to backing up data of the local server only?
Actually it shouldn't be running using the local system account as per the kb below.  Is the domain user account used to run the service being used to install acronis in the first place?

Hi Antzs,

I used my domain user account to setup Acronis. That Acronis Managed Machine service is run on the context of a domain service account named acronissvc.
Hi Antzs,

According to the kb, those limitations do not affecting as all the setup and configurations have been done and won't change any more.
Since the data backing only limited to the local system, shall I change to run the service under the context of local system?

Yes, no different, services still show stopping
Have you tried updating the Acronis to the latest service pack and patches?  It may help.

If all else fails, the only other way I can think of is to do a schedule reboot of the server instead.
Thanks for Expert - Antzs in pointing out that the services issue won't get resolved. The main problem is still the product not good, changing product should be a way to go.
