Source Server in the Send Connector question ?

People,

I've got multiple Exchange Server 2013 running CAS role in my company domain.

AD Sites: Default-First-Site-Name
PRODMBX14.domain.com [MBX & CAS role] --> To be decommissioned, no more mailbox running.
PRODMBX20-VM.domain.com [MBX & CAS role] --> newly built and operational.

AD Sites: Head Office
PRODMBX30-VM.domain.com [MBX role] --> Production.
PRODMBX42-VM.domain.com [MBX & CAS role] --> Production.

But when I browse to the Send Connectors section My domain Internet Email Connector click on Edit then Scoping:

Address Space:
Type SMTP
Domain *
Cost 1

What is source server ? Do I need to add the other CAS server role here to send out email or all Exchange Server in my domain ?
Source Server:
PRODMBX14.domain.com

OK, since I will be decommissioning the server PRODMBX14.domain.com [MBX & CAS role], can I just add the remaining Exchange server to the "Source Server" ?

I assume there will be no outage required and the email flow server can be more resilience by adding more Exchange servers into the list, is that correct ?
Yes, because PRODMBX14 will be aware of mail routing for public domains using that Send connector and it will route e-mails to new server by design. This is how Exchange organization works.

Yes you can and there would nothing like outage
One more thing to add here, that PRODMBX14 will be counted one extra while delivering e-mails. As it is possible you have few mailboxes on it.
Hi AMit,

The only mailbox that is still running in PRODMBX14 is just Journal mailbox, I will stop it and then delete it so I can remove the Mailboxes database on this server.

So Can I remove PRODMBX14 safely after adding the remaining Exchange Server with Mailbox servers role into the Source Server ?
Pradiip,

I assume this can be a just simple change that can be done during the business hours ?
Yes it is a simple change and you can do it in business hours
Yes it is safe to remove but i suggest to do it in off hours. You never know what can be a destiny of a problem.
ok, the next hop from the PRODMBX14 is the two Linux email appliances.
The Linux Vms are located each in both AD sites (data center).
Just make sure you are able to telnet to those devices in Port 25 rest nothing much required as I am expecting it existing environments so berthing is already configured
Thanks guys !
