HP ZBOOK G4 - 2nd HHD not detected by BIOS

Just got a new ZBOOK G4 and i added my old sata HHD (that was on my old ZBOOK) but somehow the HHD is not detected in the BIOS ... is there anything special we need to do on the hardware in order for the second drive to work ... (other than placing the HHD in the caddy and place the drive inside the laptop of course)

Are you attaching it via USB or something?

When it boots into windows, if you open up device manager does it show up in there?

Cheers

No i'm placing it directly into the laptop just like another hhd .. very simple task ... doesnt show in the BIOS or in Windows 10 device manager ... i've tried re-sloting it a couple of times ...

The drives is working A1 in the other ZBOOK ... i don't get it .. just wondering if on the hardware side i had a switch to turn on or something lol cleary i'm doing something wrong but can't figure out what it is!
Are you sure the old drive is compatible with the newer machine?
Maybe there is a compatibility mode setting in the bios to get the drive to be seen.
I found this on another site as a solution. See if it helps you...

"I made the following BIOS change:"

      * Computer Setup > Storage > Advanced > Power-On Options

               - POST Delay (in seconds)            5

Settings a POST delay (from the default of nearly no delay to 5 seconds) fixes the problem. In fact, if I wait 3 - 4 seconds into the delay, and then hit the ESC key to enter the BIOS setup, everywhere I was seeing "Shows only SATA0" above before,  is now showing both SATA0 and SATA1. Everything is looking and working as I would expect it to. Problem solved.
there isn't

Actually, it could be related to the SATA mode... Do you have it set to AHCI or RAID or anything? I'd set it to IDE instead and see if that helps it detect the drive, although when you boot the machine it will blue screen. This is just a test to see if you can see the drive.
Yeah i saw this post too ... did not work for me though ... i looked in the bios everything is enable as far as HHD type is concerned ... SATA1, SATA2, M1, M2

For the incompatibility .. maybe ... i'll try to look into this!
Did you look into what Alex posted?
Alex .... RAID is not enable ... that i know for sure .. i havent seen the "sata mode option" you are talking about ... lots of options UEFI ... i'll let you know if i find something but so far i would say i do not have that option!
Have you formatted the secondary hard-disk before you put it in your new computer?
No i havent formatted the drive cause i wanted to keep the data on it
how about getting an external USB drive bay and connect it that way?
I really wanted to make that work inside the laptop ..

by the way aAex there is no "SATA Option" other than checkboxes with SATA1 and SATA2 ... which are both checked!
The HDD from your old HP notebook should have some kind of protection to make it not visible in another computer. You must disable the security feature by putting the HDD back in your old notebook before you can read its content elsewhere.

Apart from the above, the HDD from your old notebook could be a Self Encrypting Drive and it will not be detected in BIOS from another computer. Post a photo of the HDD and we can check it for you.
does the drive have a drive letter?  when connected, look it up in device manager, and assign one, if it does not have a letter
you can also run this command : automount enable
