Upgrading Win8 Enterprise to Win10 Enterprise
I have a Windows 8 Enterprise PC (that is my primary PC). I want to upgrade to Win10; but, was told that I could NOT. Recently, I was told that I could upgrade to Win10 Enterprise; but, no-one knows about the upgrade process. I have even called Microsoft support and they just tell me that, in order to up grade I have to have Win 8 or 8.1, not Enterprise (they do not understand my question).
My question is w/r to the actual upgrade process - is it an in place upgrade (keeping my files and applications) or is it a clean install (removing/clearing all existing files and applications).
I am told (in many Microsoft sites) to go to the Microsoft VLS site and download the Win10Enterprise.iso; but, I cannot find it anywhere !!!
So, right now I feel like I am near to a solution w/r to upgrading my primary PC (finally); but, not quite there ..... any help ?????

Enterprise is an S.A. benefit, so if you don't have active software assura nce you don't see media in VLSC and cannot legally upgrade. If you do then you download the media and run the setup program from it.

That is part of my confusion, Cliff. I do have SA w/r to several MS products and have signed into my VLSC account and no Win10Entrp.
If I purchase Win10Entrp (seperately) - I still need to know what the install process is like. Is it a clean install or will my applications/files be intact?? Do you know???

SA is per product. I can't buy 1 2016 User CAL with SA and then expect to get windows 10 enterprise or the next version of Exchange for free.
If you don't have *ACTIVE* software assurance on a qualifying client OS (windows 8, 10) then the enterprise media won't be in your VLSC. You'll need to buy 10 Pro with SA to get access to 10 enterprise media.
The last I checked, it supported in-place upgrades, but that was with 1511 media. I have not tested in-place upgrades with 1607 or 1703 enterprise. Only pro. So YMMV.

Thanks, NetZero, for the script. It ended up being the best solution for my needs. I tried working with Microsoft; but, to no avail. So, your script and the MS Windows 10 Upgrade Tool ... everything worked out well.
Well, that script changed the edition to pro and let you upgrade to win10 pro... you don't run the desired enterprise edition now.
If the edition is changed as in the suggested solution, still, there is no way to activate that. The author owns win 8/8.1 enterprise, not win 8/8.1 professional, so there is no free upgrade to win10 pro possible - the system will not activate.
I would not recommend to select this as an answer - clearly, the author has missed that the systems are not activated right after the upgrade and cannot activate. ftv34p4s, be so kind to clue us in.
