System Center Client Upgrade- 2007 to 2012/ CB

I currently have an SCCM CB environment installed, and discovered systems in AD via system discovery. I do not have auto client install enabled because I would like to use group policy to push to systems that login actively on the network. I see how to configure the policy to install clients, but how do I use it to upgrade the client rather than install? Is it automatic? There needs to be a site re-assignment and upgrade so the new system center does not needlessly redeploy software. The upgrade allows for each system to maintain installation history (as far as I know). Thanks!

Both auto client install and GPO are a sledgehammer method. In real life, a more granular method like client push is better.

Client upgrade can be made automatic.

As for site reassignment, it is project instead of an Expert Exchange question.

Site re-assign should be auto between the new and old version... I did have one question using the push installation though. When migrating clients from SCCM 2007 to higher version, the client GUID and advertisement history are preserved. This is how CM CB can put the client in the proper collections once it is migrated. Because the advertisement history is preserved, CM CB will also know what software has been installed on migrated clients, so any deployments to those clients will not re-run. If I just install via client push to systems added through AD discovery, does this ring true still? I am trying to avoid software redeployments for all systems as that can cause serious issues.
Hi,

Will it work when you enable the "Upgrade client automatically when new client updates are available" from the Site configuration--> Sites--> Select YOUR SITE Name--> Heirarchy Settings properties?

Thanks,
Abhi
I am not sure of all scenarios but when you have migrated the advertisements, then the client will not rerun the advertisements.

Have you migrated the advertisements? Or recreated them?
