question on replacing a desktop hard drive with an SSD hard drive
Hi A while back I made a post and was asking how to speed up my laptop. Someone suggested replacing my hard drive with a Crucial MX300 1TB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive.
I did that and the speed is amazing. I would like to also replace my desktop hard drive with an SSD. However I am not sure what type of drive to buy for the desktop, as I dont see any 3.5" ssd.
So would it be best to get a converter kit such as this: product?
My current drive has the following specs: HARD DRIVE, 2T, S3, 7.2K, 512E, SGT-GRDABP2 so would an SSD make this PC run even faster? I am not concerned with space, more with speed. The computer model is: Dell Inspiron 3656

all you need is a mounting braket like this 6$ : https://www.amazon.com/Notebook-Drive-Mounting-Bracket-Adapter/dp/B00AYJFXIQ
i don't see why you would need the connector part, since an SSD has normal Sata connectors
i use these : https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Mounting-Bracket-drive-CSSD-BRKT1/dp/B0090UG55A

yes get the adapter to convert from 2.5" to 3.5" It is just a carrier.. The actual computer is a 'value' computer.. an old laptop cpu (AMD cpu's until this year were pretty much left behind in the dust by Intel CPU's, so it is OLD technology.. my 7 year old i7-2600K is twice as fast

Yes can add SSD and make it primary HDD to install OS there, make the existing one as a secondary HDD... in this way you will get speed as all the operations will be doing from SSD, having OS and installations
you can do a fresh install on the SSD - or make an image of the old install, and copy that to the SSD

Also forget about converters and other..a simple ssd bracket kit is all you need....if you can't get one fast then a simple single screw would be enough to install/mount your SSD (there are light as a feather)...just connect the SATA (power/data) and you are good to go...
