Printer claims there is a paper jam when there is no paper jam

I have this Brother MFC 8480DN Printer that is claiming that there is a paper jam, yet there is no paper anywhere in in the machine. Is there a way to resolve this issue, such as resetting the machine?

None of the suggestions worked. The error message says, "Document Jam. clear the scanner jam, then press the stop key." If I insert a paper in the scanner part and hit the stop key, it will run the paper all the way through and then pop up with the same error message again.

nothing worked. When I get some time I am going to go deeper into the printer (take it apart) and see if there is something broken or came loose or stuck that I can't see from the outside.
