Converting .au files to MP3
Does anyone know any good free converters for .au files I tried audacity and the quality was poor and it could not process the whole file. Any tips appreciated.

If you're referring to Audacity generated .au files, this is Audacity's internal format + likely you'll have to use Audacity to export them.
1) Your output files will only be as good as your input files... well... unless you're willing to pay a truckload of cash for remastering.
2) Exporting as MP3 will always loose some clarity, as MP3 is a lossy format.
3) Audacity produces stellar .mp3 files, so long as...
a) You start with a good quality input recording.
b) You export using settings targeting quality you require.
