&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;I have a hybrid environment with vmachines running locally and on the web (Rackspace). &nbsp;With my current configuration I have a VPN tunnel between both environments. &nbsp;The problem is when I lose power, my internal servers and peripherals crash and when they are brought back up it is hard to get DHCP services back online, bring up the tunnel, &nbsp;etc. &nbsp; Is it possible to set it up where my internal servers fail over to another DHCP server I could set up at Rackspace? &nbsp;The advantage being that once power is restored they could instantly get leases, etc. &nbsp;Is this something covered in the 2012 MS server DHCP functionality? &nbsp;Ultimately I would like to set something up which &quot;takes care of itself&quot;.<br />

Question about Failover

The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is an auto configuration protocol used on IP networks and an extension of the Bootstrap Protocol. DHCP allows for computers to be configured automatically to communicate with each other over an IP network without the need for manual setup by a network administrator. The implementation of DHCP relies on a DHCP server to hand out network configuration information to DHCP-capable clients that request an IP address (and other information required or useful in communicating with other devices on an IP network). In addition to an IP address, common configuration information served over DHCP includes a default gateway, subnet mask and DNS sever(s).

DHCP

A peripheral device is defined as a computer device, such as a keyboard or printer, that is not part of the essential computer (i.e., the memory and microprocessor). These auxiliary devices are intended to be connected to the computer and used in conjunction with it. Examples of external peripherals include mouse, keyboard, printer, monitor, external Zip drive or scanner, while internal peripherals include CD-ROM drive, CD-R drive or internal modem. Today's new devices, such as tablets, smartphones and wearable computing devices are considered peripherals as they can be connected and used on a computer system. The difference, however, is that these devices can run independently of the computer system.

Peripherals

A virtual private network (VPN) is a network that uses a public telecommunication infrastructure, such as the Internet, to provide remote offices or travelling users access to a central organizational network securely. VPNs encapsulate data transfers using secure cryptographic methods and other security mechanisms to ensure that only authorized users can access the network and that the data cannot be intercepted.
