mutiple locations

there are some programs that are located in program files and program data and program files x86. is that normal to exist in 3 locations . The file is CARBONITE . Does it need to exist in one location only if so which one . same i noticed with MALWAREBYTES exist in program files and program data. Even though I uninstalled it and put it in the D DRIVE.why is it still showing up in the C DRIVE/ How to get rid of it from C Drive since it is already in The D DRIVE? what is the difference between these 3 locations??

Thank you Experts for the invaluable info. But one question still not answered if the malwarebytes on the D drive installed why is it showing up in the c drive in the location i listed. Is it normal .Do I need to get rid of it from the c drive if so how do I do that?
Well, I think it's for the same reasons - is it possible to change the path where this software is installed in its setup? As nearly every programm which comes with an installer I would guess the programfiles (and some more, static files) are stored in 'C:\Program Files' since this is the folder which is common for installed programs. As soon as a program needs to store some data (i.e. configuration, signature updates) it can't write to its folder in 'C:\Program Files', so it uses a folder in 'C:\ProgramData' since this is the folder which is common for allowing programs to store data.

Here you can see a lost of predefined common folders in Windows and what they're used for: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/s2esdf4x(v=vs.100).aspx
