Windows Defender

Hello, we manage x 3 client OS's, Windows 7/8 and Windows 10, Windows defender is turned off in our build/SOE,
Anti Virus management is done using the Symantec EndPoint Protection client installed on machines, can we enable/turn on windows defender whilst another AV product co exist? Can the 2 products run together? The business wants us to download updates for defender yet it's turned off? Trying to understand why we would need to do this?

ASKER

the business raised a concern that we should still release updates for defender
Just in case someone decides to attach a non-standard device or some esoteric build of windows, or if somehow someone manages to uninstall Symantec, they’d still be covered by something. Also just in case they ever decide to have a “BYO” laptop scenario or something ridiculous like that.
Only administrators can uninstall Symantec. Users cannot. Since Symantec disables Defender Real Time, then the updates do nothing.

BYOD is totally different. They might use Defender, Kaspersky, whatever.
