Hi All,
Quick question as I cannot seem to find a black and white answer on this.

I have a Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V Host with several VM's running on it, if I bitlocker the Host what would happen if I move one of the VM's to another host would it still work/Run?

Also same sort of question if I run Hyper-V replication to another WIndows 2012 R2 HYper-V server which is also using bitlocker would that work? i.e could I fail back and forth between the two Bitlocker hosts?

Regards

John H

Here are some do's and don'ts of encryption and hyper-V:
http://www.virtualizationadmin.com/kbase/VirtualizationTips/ServerVirtualization/MicrosoftHyper-VTips/Security/DosandDontsofEncryptionwithHyper-V.html

Feel free to encrypt the hyper-v host os drive.
Don't use EFS on the drive where the virtual machines are stored.

Hope this helps!

I'd suggest you read up on how BitLocker works - if you understand how it encrypts, you'll understand that these are not concerns and it's probably why you can't find a black and white answer on it.

Bitlocker is a full volume encryption, this means that the files are encrypted as long as they reside in the bitlockered volume. There are no attributes on the files concerning the bit locker feature.
Replication to another hyper-v not bitlockered doesn't hides any challenges.
I'm not providing any links because things are pretty simple and straight forward to be understood.
I hope this clarifies things for you.
