Window update issue
When I try running windows update I get an error Windows update cannot ... because the service is not running.
I check the service is running.
I followed this article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/971058/how-do-i-reset-windows-update-components got errors on lot of dll
(If this is a big job maybe should I give the owner a choice to do a fresh install, a fresh install with applications should not be more than 4 hours)

Windows 7 updates have been working properly lately
Agree with Experienced Member's comments on Windows 7 updates.
Have just brought a Windows 7 machine back into action (it has been switched off) and it has been updating properly.

Thank you all for tips how to fix windows updates but As Experienced Member and SirOsh pointed out there are WAY too many errors and just as straightforward reinstall Windows in this case The system may have a virus. And to me it does not make sense to spend this amount of time and will or will not fix when at the same cost he can have a fresh install.
PS I did try Durga Charan Ojha and joef123 and thy did work it just gave me errors, but still others may find this helpful
