Some application or service hanging Win7 PC when Wifi connected
Hi,
An app or a service is hanging up my win7 PC only when I am connected to the internet.
I started up in safemode with networking and the hangup does not occur OR if I boot with the Wifi switch turned off the hang does not occur: Only when I am connected via wifi to the internet.
Any ideas how to diagnose?
Thanks,
Chris Schene

We do not know what apps or services, but given your description, download the most recent Wireless driver, go to Device Manager and uninstall the wireless driver. Then install but browse to the location of the download. Once installed, restart, set it up and test.

When I connect through a cable, the problem has not happened in the very limited cases where I had a cable connection available I did not see the issue.
"download the most recent Wireless driver," Since this is a Dell computer, I assume Dell would have the latest drivers.
I am very suspicious of a tool I uninstalled called "TrueKey." The happened after I uninstalled that app but the service is still there so obviously the removal did not work.
I am wondering if TrueKey added a "hook" to the object code that is trying to re-direct to intercept the logon screen.

Try using Revo Uninstaller to remove the program

Believe it or not I had to hunt around for a CAT-5 cable. I hardy use them anymore
I eventually did hang even with a "wired link".
Is there any diagnostic trace I can use to track this down to find out which app or service is hanging?

Have you tried looking at Windows logs for applications or the system itself?

I am still working on this. It's a complex problem. I tried a system restore and it failed after several hours.
I am using systemtools to try and determine which process is hanging the computer.

I got an answer and the problem was solved by two things
1) I used System internals tools to see what process ran just before the hang---it turned out to be TrueKey
2) It seems that the system restore I thought failed seemed to actually work and True Key was back in its originally installed state
3) I uninstalled True Key.
What I think happened is the True Key uninstall I did a few weeks ago failed and left everything in a limbo state.
You all helped me and I am not sure how to allocate the 500 points I have available. Ideas?

This was a complex issue. Here is what helped.
1) I looked at the windows logs, but it did not point me to the source of the problem
2) It occurred to me that I first saw this "hang problem" after I attempted to uninstall TrueKey but didn't realize the uninstall failed: The service was still there and I suspect It was hanging things up
3) I used the Sysinternals Tools (tcpview, process explorer , Debug View and diskmon) to see what activity was happening just before the hang and tcpview showed the TrueKey service sending a TCP packet just before the hang
4) I uninstalled True Key and this time it removed the service as well: No idea why it failed the first time
True Key was the source of the problem it seems.,
