cant ping linux based VM from VDS switch on vcenter but can ping windows based VM on same VDS switch
hi,
I am facing another issue after connecting all subnets via brigded on vmware workstation. when i deployed VDS switch from vcenter, i can not ping NSX manager (linux based) VM but i can ping or access VM which are windows based like win svr 2012 or win 7 in same VDS switch. here only tested using one subnet (192.168.1.0/24). plz suggest

Do you PING by name or by IP?
if you deploy a Linux VM, e.g. Ubuntu for test do you see the same issue ?
ASKER
no . i deployed NSX manager (VM) which for NSX practice lab and also faced for suse linux
ASKER
i ping by IP. i have both enviroment with domain or without domain. for windows , got ping by ip , but not for linux VM like NSX manager
So you have deployed a LInux VM and you cannot ping that ?
ASKER
Yes. I have created one VDS switch , where took only one nic as uplink. for port group has taken vmkel for mgt communication. under this VDS switch , i assigned 2 VMs, one is win svr 2012 and other is nsx manager under same host from vcenter. i can get ping from win svr 2012 , but not get ping from nsx manager which is deployed using ovf file , also got same case for suse linux.
note: here passing vds switch using ip block 192.168.1.0/24.

is this Nested ESXi ?
ASKER
yes.deployed on vmware workstation
Okay, have you made any tweaks to networking on ESXi ?
ASKER
on esxi hosts under vmware workstation connected using bridged (according to ur previous solution). from ESXi part, during installation only provide mgt ip.
Okay, there is a very strange issue with nested ESXi and networking, that's been documented that on ALL virtual machine portgroups, etc VLAN tag of 4095 ALL is used and “Promiscuous mode
see also here Networking, and see with these changes does it make any difference

here we didnt set vlan as it using vmware workstaion , no real sw or router. passes ip block using bridged. so tagg might be iisue?
ASKER
i read the link u have provided. so can we deploy vmware NSX using vswitch?
You will need to be using Distributed Virtual Switches for an NSX Deployment.
ASKER
thats the problem. so how can deploy NSX on vmware workstation as vlan tagging plus VDS switch not working for linux based or nsx manager vm (only work for win svr 2012)?
ASKER
if we use mikrotik router like RB750r2 and connect between two vmware workstation host and configure both ports using trunk and assign multiple vlans. then it communicate between both workstation different subnet and deploy vmware NSX ?
It's possible.
ASKER
then what will be the configuration from vmware workstation (like bridged ). do u have any guideline or link? can any suggest any specific model of mikrotik router??
Bridged Networking for all VMs.
We don't use hardware routers, we use virtual routers.
This would be much easier if your host supported ALL your VMs.
Is this for a Lab and Learning ?

home lab for learning. then plz give guide for virtual router installation, configure and how to connect to two host vmware workstation. so if we use virtual router on VM, then we can deploy NSX ?
