Windows 10 File Sharing

I just got a windows 10 computer and I'm trying to setup file sharing on it. It's currently on my private network. I been thru the network sharing center and have it set for current profile Network Discovery, turn on automated setup of network connected devices & turn on file and printer sharing. I've tried both all windows to manage homegroup connections as well as use user accounts. (I use the same admin account on all my pc's). I've enabled a share on my d drive and given everyone access to it.  However whenever I try to connect from a remote pc I get asked for credentials and although I'm typing in the correct username and password I get access denied. I can see the computer from the other ones on the network but can not access the file share. I can however connect from the windows 10 machine to my windows 7 machine. Firewall is off.

What the heck is going ON?

Windows 10 shares files just fine. I have two Windows 10 machines here. I turn Home Group OFF and use Password Protected sharing.

Follow my article on Folder Sharing.

I should add they are both domain computers but currently logged into my private network at home. Have same admin accounts on both machines
Set up a User on the Target machine (the one you want to map to) that is the SAME User as the source machine.

Make sure your folder has a normal name (not $) and share it to this User on the target machine. Now try mapping to it.

Open CMD.EXE on the source machine and run NET USE Z: \\targetmachineIP\folder and authenticate. Do you get an error.

Can you keep your documents on the Domain machine?  That will surely work better.

Working through a domain is getting ever more difficult because of Windows security.

Not on the domain but in a Workgroup is straightforward as you have learned. I do it this latter way and it works.

When on a domain, I use the domain file system for files.

If every PC on your private network is trusted and allowed to reach the shared files, I would also turn off use passwords, it just adds to the complexity for use at home.
I never (ever) turn Passwords OFF, even at home.
