Migrating Hyper-V Vm's from 2008r2 to 2012r2

Got 3 Hyper-V VM's on a 2008r2 server and I want to move them to a 2012r2 server.  I'm seeing lots of conflicting information on how to do this or if it can be done at all.

I don't have the hardware to setup a 2012 host so I'm hoping I can do it right from 08r2 to 12r2

Thanks!

Make a backup export each VM. Import the VM into 2012 R2. That's all there is to it in most cases.

Sorry, Cliff but the usual export/import tools do not work when going from 2008r2 to 2012r2......if I had a 2012 host (not r2) then the export/import tools would work fine....I would then export from 2012 to 2012r2.  I want to avoid the extra step.
