Sorry, Cliff but the usual export/import tools do not work when going from 2008r2 to 2012r2......if I had a 2012 host (not r2) then the export/import tools would work fine....I would then export from 2012 to 2012r2. &nbsp;I want to avoid the extra step.

Got 3 Hyper-V VM's on a 2008r2 server and I want to move them to a 2012r2 server. &nbsp;I'm seeing lots of conflicting information on how to do this or if it can be done at all.<br />

I don't have the hardware to setup a 2012 host so I'm hoping I can do it right from 08r2 to 12r2<br />

Migrating Hyper-V Vm's from 2008r2 to 2012r2

Windows Server 2012 is the server version of Windows 8 and the successor to Windows Server 2008 R2. Windows Server 2012 is the first version of Windows Server to have no support for Itanium-based computers since Windows NT 4.0. Windows Server 2012, now in its second release (Windows Server 2012 Release 2) includes Foundation, Essentials, Standard and Datacenter, and does not support IA-32 or IA-64 processors.

A server computer running Hyper-V can be configured to expose individual virtual machines to one or more networks. Hyper-V Server supports remote access via Remote Desktop Connection. Administration and configuration of the host OS and the guest virtual machines is generally done over the network.
