asked on

clone windows 10 machine

Hi,

We have configured a Lenovo thinkpad running windows 10 and want to clone the drive to 14 additonal identical machines. Our plan is to use either acronis or easus to perform the task. Our concern is reggarding the PId. It's our understanding that Windows 10 will auto authenticate with the proper PId even after cloning as the the code is embedded in the bios. Is that correct?

Thanks,

Furthermore, you cannot do this with an OEM install as the end user.  All end user imaging MUST be done through Volume License installs.  (You only need one volume license to reimage all machines, but the image MUST be built with the Volume License media.

Please see Microsoft's 2 page document on Reimaging rights:

Microsoft has HIGHLY capable, free or included with Windows Server tools for imaging in Windows Deployment Services (WDT) and Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT)

We ended up using Acronis backup to copy the initial system config.

First we copied the pid from the target machine (s) using magic jellybean key finder.  From there we used Acronis to "restore" the source image to the other machines. Worked perfectly with the exception of the pid activation. Because we had the original pid we were able to activate by phone. Oddly if we let the machines sit for a few hours they self activated.

All good and next time it's probably gonna be sysprep.

really appreciate the help.
