We have a vendor advising rollback of Google Chrome to older version in order to support their plugin. Is this safe?

Good evening,

In the spirit of being up-to-date with the latest version of applications, etc... I'd like to solicit opinions and possibly advice. For years we have been sparring with one of our client's vendors who provides a Google Chrome plugin that enables offline data entry that can later be sync'd to their cloud service.

Recently Google has dropped support for their plugin and our patch management system deployed the latest version of Google Chrome which rendered their plugin useless. They are advising our client that we roll back the installed copies of Google Chrome to an older version. Their must be a reason why Google has dropped support for their plugin and most likely many others.

Is it possible to rollback the installed copies of Google Chrome and if so is there any recommended sites the detail the process? Also, is it safe to follow the advice of this vendor who claims to have hundreds of partners who have done so without issue?

Thanks

This was the vendor's response. We have no control over their web application and cannot convert it (as far as I know).

"I would ask your team to provide you the documentation supporting that there is a security risk.  We have lots of Partners that have done this with no issue.  Bottom line, we cannot control Google and if they wont support the technology then we have to change and that is what we are doing with the new Windows platform app."
This is why there are hacks and security holes.  Stupid Vendors...
