Oldest Adobe Acrobat Pro program now compatible with windows 10

Hi,

Can you recommend the oldest version of Adobe Acrobat  that will run on Windows 10?
No, I am NOT looking for any other PDF software. I had an older machine that I upgraded to windows 10 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 worked great until the last windows upgrade and then it was suddently no longer compatible with windows 10. I must have an adobe product that will allow me to password protect and merge pdf documents. Can ANYONE help?  The Adobe Acrobat DC Pro will certainly do the trick but it is really expensive.
I am looking for an older version that is more affordable and runs on Windows 10.

Thanks for your help.

I have to admit that I didn't know Joe's link to his video tutorial about pdf-xchange-editor, or I guess I would have recommended it myself. Password protection (AES 256 Bit) and inserting pages for free? Nice.

So inserting is a command that you can see in the menu of the free installation of PDF-XChange, but you cannot use it? I see.

You folks are awesome and amazingly smart. Thank you so much Joe Winograd and John Hurst for your valuable help.
You're welcome, Tara. Happy to help. Since you're new to Experts Exchange, you may not be aware that an asker is responsible for closing a question after receiving what the asker considers to be a solution. I'm not saying that you should close this question now. You may, of course, leave it open to wait for other posts from other experts. But I mention the issue of closing questions because your last comment sounds as if you are satisfied with some of the posts in this thread. If you want to learn about closing questions, these articles will help:
How do I accept a comment as my solution?
How do I accept multiple comments as my solution?

Those articles are a bit out-of-date, because they talk about Grades, which no longer exist, but other than that, they'll get you going on the path to closing your questions here at EE. Regards, Joe
Well, unfortunately, our new EE member, Tara, has not closed the first question that she asked, so after more than three weeks of inactivity, I'll take a run at closing it. Tara said, "Thank you so much Joe Winograd and John Hurst for your valuable help." So I'm going to accept the posts by those two experts as solutions, with the first one being the Accepted Solution and the others being Assisted Solutions. Also, although Tara didn't mention Robert's comment, I think it is a good one, worthy of being an Assisted Solution, as he pointed out that he's had success with V9 in in W10. Finally, McKnife's suggestion of alternative software is a good idea — a much better idea, imo, than running very old versions of Acrobat on W10, so that's also worthy of being an Assisted Solution. I gave more more points to Joe and John, since Tara thanked them by name, and split the remaining points with McKnife and Robert. Regards, Joe
