Exchange 2016 and Exchange 2010 temporary co-existence

Hi,
I have a local Exchange 2010 server that works perfectly including on smartphones. A new Exchange2016 was installed and tested and it sends and received e-mails using a test account. The test account does not work on the smartphone.

We need to make the Exchange 2016 the primary server and co-exist with the Exchange2010 server until all of the mailboxes are moved over which will take a long time.  How do we proceed?

Work through the Deployment Assistant.  It will give you a detailed plan for coexistence and transitioning to Exchange 2016.

I don't see an option for co-existence, closest option is upgrade.
You can't upgrade without establishing coexistence first. It's part of the steps.

The system including the smartphones are working fine.  There are some certificates and other minor warnings but Microsoft strongly advised us not to fix fix them.  The said that we should move all the mailboxes off the Exchange 2010 server them fix the errors.  Apparently there is not perfect Exchange 2016 and Exchange 2010 co-existence model.
