Remove orphaned Exchange 2003 No roles no mailboxes no registry keys

I have an exchange 2013 server CU3. Can't update as there is an orphaned second server listed, Exchange 2003 Build 6944).  No one knows when or who installed it. Didn't know it was there.  I have attempted to uninstall, not in add/remove programs.  Tried using an exchange 2003 install disk, doesn't see the installation.  Tried to find it in AD, doesn't exist. Searched registry. Doesn't exist.  Found one single entry in ADSIedit with the server name and one protocol key. Nothing else.  Is it safe to delete this server or are there other places I should look before proceeding?

Take a look at the "Remove the Exchange Server 2003 server from Active Directory" section of this TechNet article.

Make certain you know what you are doing and you have selected the correct server before proceeding because there is no turning back if you remove the wrong one.  Take a full system state backup before removing the server as a precaution in the event you need to perform an authoritative restore.

Thank you for your response. I was pretty sure that was my only option.  I am waiting until this weekend, dumping all PSTs (Small store), doing the system State backup and then will remove the "empty" server.  I didn't want to leave the question open and abandoned so I'll close it now.
