Bluetooth mouse stopped working...
I've been using a Bluetooth Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Mouse for a few months without incident until this morning when my computer crashed (opening Quickbooks caused the crash, if relevant). Once computer restarted mouse would not work. Removed it & tried reconnecting & nothing. When going through the steps, lights are flashing on it, telling me its discoverable, computer's add device wizard shows a mouse, but after saying Connecting for a while, it comes back with the message 'We didn't get a response from the device. Try connecting again', which I've tried repeatedly with no success. I also tried removing all bluetooth devices via device manager & still nothing
Any suggestions?

Check that the batteries are fresh. It may be coincidence that that crash happened right when the battery failed. Bluetooth mice are quite the power hogs (1-3 months) even with 2 AA batteries compered to the USB transmitter mice that can last up to a year on a single AAA battery.

Windows 10 Pro is the OS & I tried both of the solutions - first batteries, then after running DSIM & SFC, with new & old batteries.
I hold the button on bottom of mouse, laights start flashing between green & orange. It sees the mouse when initially trying to set up, but after a few minutes of 'connecting' it comes back with the message 'We didn't get a response from the device. Try connecting again'.

Going back to QuickBooks (which should not cause this issue): Uninstall QuickBooks, restart, reinstall the Bluetooth Mouse, test and see if it works. Does it? You can reinstall QB after if it does.

Haven't uninstalled Quickbooks yet, but if it matters, my macbook pro connected to the mouse instantly...
You did the DISM / SFC step. If not an interaction with QuickBooks (because it crashed), then you may need to do Windows 10 Repair Install. It does not appear to be a problem with the mouse.
Delete the mouse device and have it redetect and reinstall.

John, also all Bluetooth items in device manager look fine. I thought the repair install went bye-bye after XP?
Serialband, if I failed to mention it in my original post, I tried that several times...

in my world it has never stopped being available

Windows 10 Repair Install is the best yet. Nothing need be lost. I did one Monday on my Home Desktop and hardly thought about it. Working great.

Would that be the 'refresh your PC' option?

That did it! When trying to connect mouse prior to this fix, it just showed as mouse, after running the repair, it came back with the name, brand, etc., of mouse & connected just fine.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Thanks for the update and I was happy to help.
If Windows 10, run DISM followed by SFC. If Windows 7 just run SFC.
DISM:
Open cmd.exe with Run as Administrator.
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth
If you ran DISM, stay in the Command Window otherwise open an admin Command Prompt and run SFC /SCANNOW.
Allow to complete, restart and test.
