asked on

reducing and modifying large comma delimited files

I had a product, dos based, that was capable of extracting data from a large mass of comma delimited data. It worked fine up to Win 7. I think later versions of Windows, 8, 8.1 and 10 may have changed the dos version, or the structure of Windows itself changed. At any rate, trying to run the product now generates an error message telling me to consult the manufacturer. Alas, the author of this utility is nowhere to be found; I've looked. The program/utility was named InfoTransFOR. If someone could suggest ways of running it, it is a bit convoluted or has another suggestion to solve the problem, I'd be happy to award points for a solution. I may try to run it in a virtual machine with an older operating system, but that would complicate an already complicated process. Can anyone help?

Please give us some details on what it can do. We need to understand its capabilities before we can suggest alternative products/solutions. Do you have a user guide/manual that you can post (without violating copyright, of course)?

> InfoTransFOR

A google search for that comes up pretty empty...are you sure that's the name?

Sorry for the delayed response. I did try out the suggested solutions, but the added complexity of those processes added too much overhead. I ended up importing the data into an Excel spreadsheet workbook and extracted the fields That I needed into another sheet (same workbook) using "=DRF!CL11" syntax. Not sure what that's called, but essentially the name of the original worksheet, followed by an "!", followed by the cell number. That works fine. I'm awarding points since the effort was made to help. Thanks.
Sorry, guess you already awarded the points.
