what is the max size for a disk in windows server 2012 r2?
i have a disk in a virtual server that is 1.27 TB. I need to increase it. i went in and increased the size but when i go to server manager, file ans storage services, volumes, disks,i try to increase it but it still says max size 1.27 TB but 75 Gb free. How can I increase the space? it is a GPT partition.

Even if you are using the older VHD format instead of VHDX you should be able to have a 2TB disk. If you are using VHDX the maximum is 64TB.

i did all the storage manager stuff. i have increased this before to the 1.27 TB. I'm trying to increase it to 2 TB so it is at 1.27 now with 75 GB free space. the volume on server manager will not let me increase it. What am i missing so that I can increase it to 2 TB?

I did it. It worked when i went to computer management and extended the volume there. Using server manager gave me that limiting message. I thought i had gone through server manager when i extended it before. Thanks everybody. your input led me to find the solution.
