How to calculate volume of steel ingot 3.5" by 4.5"
M.S. Steel ingot size is defined by having one bottom square base of side 3.5" and top square base of side 4.5".Both base are connected by length equal to 58". Basically it's a tapered ingot.

Welcome to EE.  I see that you're a new user.

It is permissible under the new rules fo ask for an answer.  However, many experts still adhere to the old rules which were "Show us your work so far and we'll help where you're having trouble."

If you show us your work so far, you will get more help.

Here's a hint:  There's no need for calculus to obtain a solution.

Sure that it is 58" and not 5.8"? Because the taper is very little, the actual height is the square root of 58²-1/4.

Is 58" the distance from the top to the bottom or is it the distance that goes from the top corner to the corresponding bottom corner? As BigRat pointed out, the difference in the two lengths is very little, but it does make a difference in how the volume is calculated.

awking00 is correct, my proposed solution assumed that 58" is the vertical distance, not the length of the side. but the difference is so small (0.003") that the final value of the volume is also VERY small.

If you might be interested in the approximate weight per cubic inch - take the numbers in the table and divide by 1728 (12*12*12).
