Dynamic DNS for Exchange Box ?

Hello Guys,

Due to bad internet connectivities in my country (Lebanon) and the need to have fail-over plans, I am considering to move my Exchange Box from a public IP (from a specific ISP) to a Dynamic DNS from a "reliable" Dynamic DNS vendor.

Anybody has an experience with how to do so ?

Help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A Dynamic DNS won't provide you with new IP addresses, you still rely on your ISP for IP addresses.
To have a fail-over, you need a second connection from another ISP.
Dynamic DNS is only to help you with that AFTER BOTH ISP connections are proven to work.

What you are after is DNS failover, (some Dynamic DNS companies do provide such a service but shouldn't be confused with Dynamic DNS). Basically it takes the URL address "i.e. Mail.Acme.com" and associates it with multiple external IP addresses. Depending on the setup it may do these in a particular order so Internet line 1 is used first but if this goes down/unreachable it automatically sends the traffic to the second internet line. You will need multiple internet lines to have this functionality (usually from different Internet providers).

Dynamic DNS is used when your external IP address on your single internet line changes regularly by using applications on your server to talk back to the DDNS system which will update your hostname with the current IP of your internet line. It doesn't provide any failover capabilities as to have failover you need multiple internet lines (or servers in different physical locations).
