Android phone needs google account after reset.

We have an android cell phone (Galaxy S6 Edge) that belonged to an employee who is not longer employed here.  The phone has been reset and will not get past requiring the previous google account credentials.  I have tried a factory reset on the phone it will only get as far as requiring the google credentials.  Any ideas how to get past this without knowing the google credentials?

This is activation lock. It's to prevent the phone from being stolen and then reused.  You will need to login to the users google account in order to remove activation lock.

Afraid of that, the user is no longer employed with us and hasn't answered any messages.  Is this the only option?
What is your purpose with the phone which does not belong to you?

You might want to contact samsung and see what they advise you to do.  I had the same thing happen to me with an iphone but the x employee had their apple id email address set to their work account so I was able to reset their password and gain access to the phone.

You can try a factory reset.  It will wipe everything.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Reset Password with Factory Reset

    Turn off the Galaxy S6.
Press and hold the Volume up button, the Home button, and the Power button at the same time until you see the Android icon.
Using the Volume down select wipe data/factory reset option and press the Power button to select it.
Using the Volume down highlight Yes – delete all user data and press Power to select it.
After the Galaxy S6 has rebooted, then use the Power button to select it.
When the Galaxy S6 restarts, everything will be wiped and will be ready to set up again.
Activation lock will not go away after factory reset.
If your samsung device hasn't ever been updated, it may work.  After that update came out to fix the bypass it won't.

There are ways around it, but that's against the rules on this site.
The phone has been reset and will not get past requiring the previous google account credentials.

It might be legal in China to do FRP (Factory Reset Protection) unlock. Of course, you need to communicate with them in Chinese.
