asked on

intentional faults on your computer for training.

I am looking to train some people in the basics of Windows, Hardware, PC optimization, virus removal and the such. Is there some sort of software that you can use to simulate issues on your computer without causing permanent damage?

Thanks

Unplug (slightly) the hard drive.
Unplug (slightly) the motherboard power cable.
Unseat (slightly) the RAM.

etc...
Ask for friends or relatives (of the students) machines that are known to be faulty.

There will be some.  If there aren't then they don't have a wide enough acquaintance/relative circle ...

You can carefully get your students to run software on them to find the faults under your supervision.  Get signed disclaimers first.

You could probably clone the hard disk of these machines first and do your experiments on the cloned disks and then reinstall the original disk afterwards.

Oh yeah I didn't even think about snapshotting a VM. That is perfect.
