what oracle doc are you referring to ?

i haven't counted the oracle docs, yet, but i'm guessing there are over a million
You can define:
a conversion common to any item (Standard)
a conversion for a specific item within a unit of measure class (Intra-class)
a conversion for a specific item between unit of measure classes (Inter-class)

Examples
standard
1 Dozen = 12 EA
1 Mn = 60 SECONDS

Item-specific Intra-class Conversions
1 CASE= 24 EA
1 CASE = 10 EA

Item-specific Inter-class Conversions
1.35 Millimeter = 1 GRAM
1 Millimeter = 1 Gram

Hi David,

Thanks for coming back. This is one of the explanation I saw earlier but was still confused with:
Item-specific Inter-class Conversions
 1.35 Millimeter = 1 GRAM
 1 Millimeter = 1 Gram

Is there any other better way to explain.

Thanks
Or, can you describe the specific business problem(s) you are trying to solve with these conversions?  Is it something like: "we order a material in liters, but we need to use it by the gram or ounce"?
There is no business problem. Its only me trying to understand the difference. I am new to subject and wanting more clarity.
inter-class is from 1 unit of measurement to another unit of measurement

1KM = 5/8 Miles
Ok.to clarify. when its intra class ,its item specific but we define one unit of measure say 1 dz = 10 qty.
But in case of intra its again item specific but from one unit to another say 1 km= 500 miles
"inter" and "intra" are Latin words (or prefixes) that are used in English (and in E-Business Suite) with these meanings:
inter - between (different groups or things)
intra - within (a single group or organization)

For example:
inter-scholastic competition involves two different schools
intramural competition involves two different groups or classes of students that are all part of just one school
