RAID Controller Replacement Wipes Config?

Hello!
Have a client that had 2 drives fail on a HP 212 Smart Array which caused a rebuild. Upon opening the U1 rack HP server (DL120 G6) I see the raid controlled circuit board looks a little brown, like its beginning to burn up. The system with the replaced drives is operational and the server reinstall is completed. For the extra $50 for the controller I don't mind replacing it, however, my concern is will replacing the controller wipe out the array config (3x1tb raid 5). I don't want to go through the install again. The cables will stay in the same spot, and the array controller only has 1 connection which then branches out to the hard drives.
Anyone know for certain if replacing the raid controller will be a safe and non-destructive swap?

I only have experience with Dell unfortunately, but if they are at all similar in this regard, if you put a new RAID controller into the system it will sense that there is a configuration on the disks and ask what you would like to do. You can then import the config of the disks which tells the controller to use that setup.

Maybe do a Google search for HP RAID and import disk Config?

First, no matter how much something SHOULD work, if there's corruption or even too different a firmware, you could lose everything. If at all possible, make backups first.

Second, any enterprise class raid controller should be able to import the config from the disk. I would fully expect that if things haven't been corrupted, you should be able to import the config and not need to worry about the data. SHOULD. Practice may be different.
