VEEAM Free Whole Disk Backup and Restore - auto not working message

I backed up a 500GB HD with the latest VEEAM Free for Windows.
Then I tried to restore to a 1TB hard drive and it came back that "Auto......." was unsuccessful .. something like that.
I think this strange and would have like to avoid it.
How?

Next, I manually restored the C: partition and the likely other partition of size ~450MB.  I left out the 18GB (recovery partition?) and one other very small partition.  It wouldn't boot from this....
It would be nice to know how to select so the drive will boot.

(same computer...)

Thanks.  I wish it were just a bit more evident what one is to do in cases like this.  I wish there weren't cases like this at all!  I ended up using Clonezilla - but that isn't done remotely.
