New WiFi router recommendation

My 10yr old Netgear WNR3500 seems too old and only giving up to 10Mb with our new equipment.
Its RangeMax wireless-N Gigabit router.  Been good for us but.. for the last few years with newest devices seems compatibility issues there.

Should we stay with Netgear and get the latest model or some other good options around there?
Thanks.

That has Gigabit Ethernet ports and N300 wifi (300Mbs).  My WNDR3700v3 is the same except it also has 5GB channels and N600 wifi.  I'd check your set up and other devices before replacing your router.  It may not be the problem.

Here is some interesting info about wifi problems.  https://kb.netgear.com/19279/Why-am-I-not-getting-the-maximum-speed-that-my-router-is-capable-of

Flashed to the latest firmware (from 2012) still no luck.  Same slow from all devices.  I think time to replace that router..

I'm agree with Dave.

There might be a WIFI signal overlapping issue.

Try these settings:

802.11 Mode: 802.11 N
Frequency: 2.4 GHz
Band Width: 20 MHz
Wireless channel: CH11 or CH6 or CH1

Also download and Install free Acrylic Wifi Scanner on your laptop and let it scan for 10 minutes,  Screenshot the app and post it here,
Please clear your MAC address from that Picture for security reasons.

I like the Netgear I have and I have installed for a couple of customers also.  A newer version might be a good option.  Only thing is... it is not guaranteed to change your situation.

Hey Ramin,
I can only change the channel (its on 11).  I do not see options for anything else.  I'll try your Acrylic scanner and get back at you.  Thanks!
There are also WiFi scanners available for Android phones
Here you go.  Is that all you were asking or you need actual screenshot?

Tz-ssid      00:1E:2A:71:A1:      -28      11+7      b, g, n      300 Mbps            PSK-TKIP            1.0      NETGEAR      09:41:28      now      Infrastructure
Thanks for the result.

Change your WIFI Password.
Select your region from dropdown menu.
Change the speed mode to Up To 145 Mbps or Up to 130Mbps. this is very important.
Go to Wireless Settings under Advanced in the main menu,  find WPS and make sure it is disabled or the check box to Disable Router's PIN is selected.
Change the security Options to WPA2-PSK (AES). this will increase the security.

Test the speed Ookla speed test:
www.speedtest.net

Try with channel 6 and retest the speed.
Try with channel 1 and retest the speed.

Also check the MTU size.
What number is assigned for the MTU size ?
Find it in the main menu, under Advanced, select WAN Setup.
I killed it.   once switched to WPA2-PSK (AES). it doesn't come back up anymore.   hard reset doesn't help either.. sucks.

Yes, I will order a new router John.  I just thought I can temporarily fix this one in a meantime.
Thanks for helping guys!
I am leaning towards this one.  NETGEAR AC1750 Dual Band WiFi Gigabit Router (R6400)

Good option?  Thanks!

I would buy an AC 1900 router.
AC 1900  routers tend to be top of the line and have better processors that can speed up the data throughput if there is a lot of traffic.
My own Cisco router is AC and nice and fast
Just ordered AC1750.  Should be good enough for now.  Thanks guys!

Internet carrier would always be the bottleneck right?  Currently mine at 200 Mbps dedicated.
I think  AC1750 is a perfect router.
It depends on the ISP. I do not have much bottleneck issue with my own ISP>
Thanks again guys!   I'll try to recover that old router but I think its a brick now :z)
Thanks for the update and I was happy to help.
Thanks.
