How to view log of failed Windows update

The following update fails to install (on a Server 2016 VM running Exchange 2016):

Security Update For Exchange Server 2016 CU6 (KB4036108)
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4036108/description-of-the-security-update-for-microsoft-exchange-september-12

The application and system logs show nothing.  If I run the patch manually it just reports that installation "ended prematurely because of an error".

How can I troubleshoot this update installation?  Is there a log file somewhere?

Thanks in advance for any assistance

Excellent, that gets me to the next stage - but the log doesn't say much of use:

2017/09/17 03:30:02.7077276 29328 24344 Handler         Operation failed at update 0, Exit code = 0x80242008
That doesn't seem very helpful at all!

Are you able to reboot server, potentially clean boot it - to see if you can then install this on here?
Yeah, have tried that already.  Not to worry, I think I'll decline the update and just live without it until the next CU.  Thanks again!
According to https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/938205/windows-update-error-code-list, the pertinent error code means:
0x80242008 WU_E_UH_OPERATIONCANCELLED An operation being done by the update handler was cancelled.

... which doesn't really tell me much either.  Never mind!
