OS Network Install

Hi everyone

The company I am working for installs its images/OS via a network in UEFI.

How does the computer know on which server the image is stored?
Does the computer send out special packages via TCP/IP to retrieve the location of the images?
What protocol does it use?

I would also be grateful for a link to a site which explains the procedure.

Thanks

Massimo

It looks like we use the first  method.

There is no need for an administrator to assign the image to the notebook - if that is what I understood.
We just plug the network cable into the computer .. then I see on the screen something about the computer's MAC address - and then it retrieves the image.

So the second method .. the Administrator has to assign the images manually to the notebooks based on the MAC address?

I am sorry if this message is very basic, but I am trying to understand how it works.
Thank you
You are welcome. Sorry for late answer. Yes, my explaining was a common description how the deployment works whatever tool you use for it. And your lonk to RIS shows it in pictures as well.
If you plan to do deployment for several machines simultaneously then you need to make sure that your network devices (router, switch etc) do support multicasting.

Take care
