SQLVSS Writer on a SQL 2008 R2 Veeam B&R 9.5 keeps on failing

Backup was running fine for a couple of months until recently. Error: VSSControl: Failed to freeze quest over network, wait timeout.

Restarted server, repaired SQLVSS Writer, increased timeout as recommended by Veeam, changed service to domain administrator, VsPhere able to take snap and another backup software able to do application aware backup.

Have you tried running the backup job, on it's own with no other jobs running, and also when the SQL server is at it's quietest.

Failing that do not use Veeam Aware application quiescing to create a crash consistent backup.

Lots of issues with this VSS and Veeam 9.5, I think Veeam have also stated changing the timeout version not applicable to 9.5.

Thanks Andrew. I have worked with both VMware and Veeam and can confirm that we are able to perform manual snapshot without any errors. Datastore is fine, Server not under high I/O during the schedule and not low on disk space. Even doing a test Veeam backup (on its own) fails with the same error.

Veeam also provided some KB articles that they think could work like increasing the default time out. I now have Microsoft working with me on this one and them too are having difficulty with the issue at hand. I had this backup running for a while and all of a sudden this happened. I also repaired SQLVSS on the server - by the way this is an SQL server having the issue.

I am now going to re-register some .dll files as per request from Microsoft.

I've had this issue for nearly 2 months and has been a struggle.
Hi Andrew we finally have a breakthrough on the case - there is a DB that is upsetting the process.

I have conducted a test backup with the concerned DB offline and went 100%!

Here is the tool from MS that can help identify which DB is causing the issue - https://github.com/Microsoft/tigertoolbox/releases/tag/v2.0.0

This SQL Server Backup Simulator tool is to verify if everything from a SQLVDI perspective is working correctly for a 3rd party backup application to perform a VDI backup of a SQL database.

I hope this can help everyone else having the same symptom.
I may have celebrated too soon as a second test backup is yielding the same Failed to Freeze error!

I am now checking with the tool and identify which DB now is causing this.
