TSM restore error: ans5042e data is not available on server.

Hi everyone.
                        i got to run a restore of a .xls file and when i run the restore this message apears:

ans5042e  data is currently unnavailable on the server .

Lately a couple of tapes has been checked off from library.

Is there any way to know in wich tape is the .xls file that i need to restore?

ANS... are client messages. Please look at the server's activity log to find related information. The server log should tell which tapes are needed. It might actually be that these tapes are offline, but they could also be marked "unavailable" by the server.
There are ways to find out which tape a file is stored on, but this is a lengthy and/or complicated thing.

For today:

Q ACTLOG BEGINT=-06:00 ENDT=NOW

To search past days you'll have to specify BEGIND in the form e. g. for "yesterday 2 PM until now":
Q ACTLOG BEGIND=-1 BEGINT=14:00 ENDD=TODAY ENDT=NOW

Did you use the correct query format? I mean, did you find any messages at all issued at or around the time in question?
wool, i fond a lot of data , but near the time  when the restore was launched we have an issue and the server was down. so there is information but related to the reboot process. nothing related to the restore.
If there was trouble with the server around the time of the restore attempt - did you try to repeat it? Could it be that due to the server issues the tape/tapes have become "unavailable"? Check with

Seems like all the volumes are in unavailable state!

Maybe this is the issue, how can i put them on available status again?

                      sadly , after update the volumes status from unavailable to read/write , i ran the  restore again and the data was not available on those volumes. Please , can you give me the steps to find the data on the volumes outside the library? i know  it will be a tedious process but i really need the data

           fortunately i have the volumes (lto tapes) in a safe box , so i know exactly the names of each one. I´ll try this and i´ll back to you with the results.
