Hi everyone.
                        i got to run a restore of a .xls file and when i run the restore this message apears:

ans5042e  data is currently unnavailable on the server .

Lately a couple of tapes has been checked off from library.

Is there any way to know in wich tape is the .xls file that i need to restore?

Thanks in advance.

ANS... are client messages. Please look at the server's activity log to find related information. The server log should tell which tapes are needed. It might actually be that these tapes are offline, but they could also be marked "unavailable" by the server.
There are ways to find out which tape a file is stored on, but this is a lengthy and/or complicated thing.

wool,
thanks in advance. Please can you give me a command to check the activity log from now to 6 hours ago?

For today:

Q ACTLOG BEGINT=-06:00 ENDT=NOW

To search past days you'll have to specify BEGIND in the form e. g. for "yesterday 2 PM until now":
Q ACTLOG BEGIND=-1 BEGINT=14:00 ENDD=TODAY ENDT=NOW

Did you use the correct query format? I mean, did you find any messages at all issued at or around the time in question?

Author

Commented:
wool, i fond a lot of data , but near the time  when the restore was launched we have an issue and the server was down. so there is information but related to the reboot process. nothing related to the restore.

If there was trouble with the server around the time of the restore attempt - did you try to repeat it? Could it be that due to the server issues the tape/tapes have become "unavailable"? Check with

Seems like all the volumes are in unavailable state!

Maybe this is the issue, how can i put them on available status again?

Thanks!!

Hello Wool,
                      sadly , after update the volumes status from unavailable to read/write , i ran the  restore again and the data was not available on those volumes. Please , can you give me the steps to find the data on the volumes outside the library? i know  it will be a tedious process but i really need the data

Thanks in advance.

I hope you know the names of the volumes in question! Running the following commands against ALL volumes will  "last forever", i.e it will (practically) not come to an end.
It will also be helpful if you know the name of the concerned node as well as the name of the filespace!

Run this against every eligible volume, one after the other (and be patient):

select VOLUME_NAME, FILESPACE_NAME, FILE_NAME from contents where VOLUME_NAME='<volume>' and FILESPACE_NAME='<filespace>' and FILE_NAME='<filename>'

The single quotes around the node/filespace/file names are important!

The names could look like this (please note again that I'm not a Windows expert):

VOLUME_NAME='GO1659L5'
FILESPACE_NAME='\\hostname\e$'

FILE_NAME='\ filename'
The space between "\" and "filename" is required!

If the above doesn't work for whatever reason we could use a different approach. Please let me know if you need further instructions.

wool,
           fortunately i have the volumes (lto tapes) in a safe box , so i know exactly the names of each one. I´ll try this and i´ll back to you with the results.

Thanks again as usual. you are top notch! :)

Santiago.

Please note that the above query consists of one single line. If you need line breaks use " -" (space dash) as the continuation character.
