UPS APC Smart-UPS SRT 5000VA

In the specs saying :
APC Smart-UPS SRT 5000VA RM 208V to 120V 2U Step-Down Transformer

Does that mean it has 208V input and 120V output.  Or I can plug it in either into 120V or 208V?
Do I need to have 208V 30Amp plug for this?

Here you go.  Thank you.

I wonder if I don't have 208V wall receptacle L6-30R.  What are my options?  Buying different UPS models?
208 Volts is NOT 240 Volts, rather it is normally 3 phase voltage. Most homes would not have such outlets.

Check with APC to see if this is what you really have as normally it would have to be wired in.

I am not sure why it would be labelled this way except that it may be a special unit.

Perfect thanks dhsindy!  Follow-up q.-
Yes this is a commercial building, but.. we may not have 208V in there.
If they only have NEMA 5-30R.  What are my options for the UPS and how many wall receptacles and circuits will I need?
I have not seen a 208 Volt outlet. These devices are wired in so you need to contact an electrician for wiring.

Can you return the unit for a more standard unit?
Nah, very common.  APC has L6-30P.  Works with 208V or 240V.
Standard 240 Volt outlets are easy to install and safe to use. Get an electrician to put one where you need it. Easy. I have one in my basement
I think we derailed from the q.  IF I cannot get L6-30R installed.  Only NEMA 5-30R.
Is there another UPS that can hold the same load?
APC have lots of units for a variety of loads. Just pick one. Big units will likely want a 240 Volt input (more efficient)
Right... so my question is.  Which units do I need to replace that unit.  IF I cannot get 208V in that building.
Here is the replacement unit using 230 Volts IN (same as 240 Volts)

http://www.apc.com/shop/id/en/products/APC-Smart-UPS-5000VA-230V-Rackmount-Tower/P-SUA5000RMI5U

Also there was a 208 Volt unit next in the list - different unit.
How about 120V?  NEMA 5-30R
That would probably work  but it would take twice the current to run it as a 240 Volt unit.

For that kind of unit stick with 240 Volts as you will need an electrician anyway
How much output do you actually need?  With a 240V input you'll be able to get about double the output power of something with a 120V input.
5000 VA at 120 Volts is a 50 Amp circuit. 25 Amps for 240 Volts
Thanks CompSolv.  Agreed.  So that mean I would need two smaller 120V units to replace one 240V.
Which units would that be?
Start with the link I provided and search again for 2500 VA units. See if they are available in 120 Volt input. Still, you would need a 25 Amp circuit so special wiring in any event.

Isn't it considered a bad practice to use 2 legs of a 3-phase system unless you can balance it out elsewhere?

Yes.  Tiras25 - use standard 240 Volt units. APC has proper units for you and no need to get 208 Volt units.

Also for the power you need (you say) use a 240 Volt system. An electrician can easily put an outlet (or two) in for you.
