Cisco Adaptive Qos Available Bandwidth Determining Mechanism

Hi,

Could Any one advise on how Cisco QOS determines the Available bandwidth on a spoke.

I know how to configure it , but i really want to know what is the mechanism of Cisco to identify the bandwidth fluctuations.

Like does it send any probes to the other end point or does it do periodic stress test between end points to find the bandwidth on the link.

Please advise , i really wan to know the mechanism of it.

Thanks,
AARAV

Please clarify your Ustinov from which view point are you asking,
It seems your question deals with qos for bandwidth set on the hub for the spoke.

If not mistaken when you configure qos you would set what the bandwidth number is when using percentages for utilization/reservation.

Hi,

I have to explain a group of Engineers , how this Adaptive Qos intelligent Bandwidth adjustment works.

So i need to explain the actual mechanism of the adaptive Qos concept (not the configuration) to these people to know how adaptive qos adjust the Bandwidth cap on the interface after setting minimum and maximum ratio

Thanks,
AARAV
Hi Arnold,

Thanks for your reply , i have already gone through this document but i am looking for the explanation of the algorithm that adaptive qos uses to identify the changing internet bandwidth.

"The below from the document"
"These shapers would adapt automatically based on the changing Internet bandwidth that is periodically computed using an algorithm."
This is a proprietary scheme which they describe but will not completely disclose.
Potentially, they have DMVPN traffic passing, when each side detects a packet drop related to saturation, it could be one of the factors used to calculate. Potentially they have a proprietary query to check the max throughput of the interface.....

I think the engineers to whom you would need to describe can be in general terms that Cisco has developed an algorithm on whose basis they calculate/determine the available bandwidth, and over time the process learns the range of .. and adjusts based on your desired percentages to prioritize.
Not sure since you are not the one setting up the algorithm on whose basis these determination will be made, how you could detail the mechanism beyond, "According to cisco and this document they say it works".
Hi Arnold,

If you think , this is the closest we can find on this mechanism , then we can close of this question accepting your comments.

Thanks,
Nirmal
Does your question match the scenario described. I.e. Using DMVPN that interconnects branches and HQ....
The scenario was fine as i already referred this document to explain the lab configuration.

However, what i cant explain them is the mechanism what cisco uses to identify the varying bandwidth
I think they vaguely reference what they consider and not all they consider...
Yes, that's true .

Anyways , im going to post it on the Cisco Actual forum aswell to see if anyone from cisco can provide me an explaination
