Office 2010 Product Key

I used the installation CD to re install Office 2010 on a new computer - Win 7 Pro 64bit (after the old one crashed).

Impossible to re activate Office 2010.  When I open any of the programs (Word, Excel etc...) I am asked to activate the software either from the Internet or Manually over the phone.  Both methods tell me I have an invalid key that was previously activated.

I purchased a copy of KeyFinder and ran it on the computer.  For Office 2010 it returned two "Keys".  The CD Key is the same as on the Installation media box, (so I know I'm on the right track).  The other is a number string separated by dashes.

My Question: HOW DO I MAKE USE OF THAT NUMBER STRING?  WHERE DO I "PLUG IT IN" SO IT WILL MAKE MY SOFTWARE LEGITIMATE?

As usual, help is appreciated.

It depends on which country are you from.

If your Office 2010 is OEM licence, the licence will come to an end if the hardware of the computer having Office 2010 installed is dead. It is true for most countries except all countries in European Union.

Anyway, you can try a phone activation to see whether Microsoft will help you to manually activate your OEM licence.
Thanks everyone.  I have not tried this yet (small medical problem), but I dont want to leave the question open, besides I'm sure the solutions are useful.
Thank you and best wishes to you.
