Does Dropbox Automatically update files?
I've been using Dropbox at the Premium level for ages, always believing that any file stored in it that I change in the original on my HD gets automatically synced.
I was just merrily running along on this premise, when ― imagine my surprise! I was taking a close look at my Dropbox and it was working furiously at the same time to upload tens of thousands of new/(changed??) files while I was there !
What the heck? If I'm paying a premium price I expect to at least get auto-syncing.
Am I asking too much?
PS: I've also found the same thing with my Amazon Unlimited drive.

Echo John, Dropbox has a setting that deals with sync.
One behavior is to sync files up into Dropbox, your deals with other locations syncing files down and not only on access.
When you are not loged in, Dropbox is not active and no sync down occurs.
Auto signin, auto sync.

Hi John and Arnold,
Sorry to be be slow in responding to you, overnight. John, you mention your "other machines, " and I am wondering if you mean "devices"' i. e. iPod, phone, pad? Surely Dropbox wouldnt have one identical version for the different platforms. Or would it?
Here's an administrative question I have about using the new Experts Exchange. I got into deep s---t a while ago when attempting to award points to answers. Viz.... since you've both so far been helpful with different details, it would be my old practice to split the Answer points. But is that still ndone? And if so, how? I want to avoid another run through the EE gauntlet!

Dropbox on a phone or pad may use different version numbers that Windows, but I see my phone updating Dropbox whenever Windows does and do as long as all devices are reasonably up to date and logged in, they should sync. They DO sync for me.
Yes, you can still split points. That capability still exists for us regular people.

That could be, and is a useful thought.
But Dropbox Premium may that many business files as well.
In any event, do check.

For Dropbox or Amazon to start a sync of thousands of files, thousands of files need to have changed. If OP does not expect thousands of files to have changed, something is changing them. The Dropbox SKU is irrelevant
Be sure all versions are the same (35.4.x) and make sure you are signed in everywhere.
