Windows still sees external Monitors after disconnecting
Hello everyone,
I have a user who originally reported an issue that his Excel Documents would not show up on the screen. I found that the issue was because, he would have his surface tablet connected to External monitors and the surface tablet closed and the Excel documents were showing up in the Surface tablet display. I originally disconnected the display but then found that when he turned the other two monitors off, he would not have any display at all. I worked around that by duplicating the displays. He now has a display when the other two monitors are turned off, but then he has the same issue that he called in about and this is because Windows still sees the two monitors. I wanted to actually disconnect the monitors but the user told me that he did not know how to do that and I don't know exactly how his monitors are connected, but I would think that turning them off would do the same thing. I have been seeing this issue for quite sometime, where the OS still believes that there are still external monitors even though the computer has been disconnected from them, for me it's no big deal, I just go into the display settings and disconnect the external display, however I don't want to tell a user that he has to do that every time. I am wondering if anyone has a solution for that. The user is running Windows 10 pro for the OS.

Hey Arnold,
Those are some good suggestions. I am hoping to have it be an automatic process to where the monitors just clear out, but maybe that is something that Microsoft needs to fix.

Some application when go full screen will jump into the remaining screen, when not full screen, they "appear" at the last position whether it actually exists.
As noted, I believe only full screen will snap to the remaining screen as that is the only available screen to snap in.
The item appears in the task bar so there are ways to pull it...

This would be the easiest thing to follow and the issue that I have been posting about is something that no one has any real control over. Thanks David.
Use Artie key left or right, that will attach the window to mouse.
Alternatively, open device manager, and rescan. Monitors, graphics....... To have the resource cleared. At times the app remembers the location where it was last, and tries to show up there as long as it is not full screen.
Another option, right click on the app in the taskbar and select move, arrow right, and then move the mouse.
