thanks you both for the response. I know it's not supported in express. I get the error when I try to deploy a report. The actual error is:
"scale-out deployments not supported for this version." I am not trying to do a scale out deployment, just want to deploy to the report server. Simple.
This all worked perfectly until I applied the update. I don't know how to specify that this is not a scale-out deployment request.

I understand what the post is saying, but both my instances have the same name (9601TY). So how do I decide which one to remove?
not sure what you try to do.
please clarify "I understand what the post is saying, but both my instances have the same name (9601TY). "?
if SSRS-> check in windows services
you nay see there
SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER) --> if your server name is 9601TY -- it is your service -. check property -> exe file location from what you'll find sql -SSRS version, etc
if your windows serice is like this one
SQL Server Reporting Services (9601TY) -> see above steps ..
--
also you can check ssrs to remove via //yourssrsserver/reportser ver link
ssrs manager ..
