Reset Windows 8 Admin Password

Trying to help a family friend that lost their daughter. I can get into one of the accounts on the computer but not the daughters, which is the admin account. They don’t know what her password is and don’t have it backed up? Is there anything that can be done?

Condolences, do you have a Windows boot option, which hardware.
Booting the system by means other than the harddrive oS needed.
Before changing the password, my advice would be to create a new admin account. If the existing setup use any encryption, change of password will lock the data ......... Using/setting up a second admin account provides for an opportunity of .... Dealing with the existing account password.

The mechanism after booting the system by other means, is to within the c:\windows\system32 rename utilman.exe to utilman.bak
Copy cmd.exe to utilman.exe
Reboot the system using the harddrive, at the login prompt, click on the easy access, you shoud then run
Net user username *
To create a new account, username
Net localgroup administrators /add username
Net localgroup administrators to confirm the username is a member of the group.

Thank you so much. I had tried Ophcrack but it couldn't find it. I tried Pogo Stick and it let me reset it. They were very relieved that we were able to get in.
Thanks for the update and I was happy to help you resolve the password issue.
