Move Joomla Website to Apache Server

I am trying to move a website to a new Linux server.  The Server has Apache httpd service running.  I have unzipped the home directory of the site to its original folder which is /home/user1/www.websitename.com/web/httpdocs.  The files are below this.  I am not able to browse to the website when I connect to the folder.  How can I get this to work?

Hello ,need more information.

What distribution are you using? Different distributions can have different default webroots

Are you running a vps or on shared hosting? Eg: A vps running ubuntu would put files in /var/www/html/, shared hosting usually put web files in the /home/user/www/ directory

What happens when you browse the current folder. When you can't connect does it give you an error message?

ASKER

This is on a shared Amazon web server.  There was no /var/www folder.

I assume you know that shifting a Joomla site involves shifting the files (as you have stated)

And another is Shifting the database... if you have not done it... you will not see the site.

If you have not done it, the let me know I will give steps to shift database. (you need to have Cpanel Access)

and you say you have put files in correct place... do check that with placing a test html file.
There a 3 websites and 3 databases.  I have zip files for the sites and .sql scripts.  Need some help with where to put these files.
When you connect to the ftp server to upload your files, what directory does it put you in, and what directories are listed?

If you are in /home/user1/ directory. Look for a folder called www or public_html or something similar to that, then upload  your html files into that, they should then be visible on the net.

Can you provide me a link to the service you are subscribed too.
ok... you got correct files needed for transferring sites... zip + sql

for zip, you need to unzip them in the ROOT directory for the website. (assuming each website is on a separate hosting account)

now sometimes shared hosting allows you to host multiple websites on same account where you put sites in different folders on root. If that's the case there will be ROOT + 3 different folders in your root and each site zip files should go to its respective folder.

for transferring database, you need to create 3 EMPTY databases... one for each site.

after creating a empty database, just EXPORT the sql file into the database... its a straightforward process where you go to IMPORT TAB select the SQL file from your machine and press GO button.

let me know if you are comfortable doing all this... If not then I can do it for you, but for that you will have to give access to me.

A better way to get it done from an expert from EE is to create a GIG here.
Sounds like you might be new to this process. Be sure to read above comments about moving files + database.

Since you make no mention of moving your database, likely this is the problem.
