Does Acer 8th Gen core i5 8250u based laptop model A515-51G support M.2 SSD in second SATA slot

Hi,

I bought an Acer 8th Gen core i5 8250u based laptop model A515-51G.

Does the laptop support M.2 SSD in the second SATA slot.

Can I have a configuration where I can install the OS from the SSD SATA slot and also have the 1 TB hard disk that comes with the laptop for storing data.

Does this model support dual SATA configuration?

Does this laptop support booting from the M.2 SSD SATA slot with the default hard disk as the data disk?

What is the size and specs. of the SSD that I can install in the second SATA slot and whether I can make it bootable?

Please reply asap for this question.

Thanks for your support.

Warm Regards,
Sriram.

The boot order depends on having a drive in the system having an active partition.
If both.drives have active partitions, the order of connection is important.
Often using uefi, bios settings one can alter the boot order, I.e. Which device/drive will be looked at for the system
M2 usually meant it has a special supported. You of course can get an enclosure converting an m2 SSD to Sata....

You may have to refine your question.
I agree with Arnold there is more than one question there

M2 SSD’s go in the seperate m2 slot, there is likely only 1 (or none) of these

Most laptops have a embedded slot for a SATA disk and sometimes another where the DVD is connected

A M2 disk looks like any other disk to the BIOS and can u can therefore boot off it

SSD disk sizes are dependant on how deep your pockets are, I have just bought a 1TB SSD (Samsung Evo) for around AUD400
the question is confusing :
you ask "Does the laptop support M.2 SSD in the second SATA slot."  if it is a sata slot, it accepts Sata drives - not m.2 drives - these require  an m.2 socket
more info on m.2 drives :  https://www.kingston.com/us/ssd/system-builder/m2_faq
i could find no info on disk sizes -  so this is my opininion :
you can install any size disks in a sata slot for all i know

ASKER

Hi,

Thanks everyone for your response.

Let me simplify my question.

1. The laptop has two SATA slots.
2. It comes with 1 TB SATA hard disk.
3. In the BIOS, I can view that the laptop has two SATA slots.
4. There is some confusion as some reviewers in the website I bought the laptop has said that the second SATA slot is for M2 drives.

My question is what is the specifications for the second SATA slot? Whether it supports normal 2.5 inch SSD or does it support M.2 drives.

Acer support is not responding clearly because this laptop is a new model (8th gen laptop).

My only question is whether the second SATA slot is for 2.5 inch SSD or whether it only supports M.2 drives?

I appreciate your support.

Warm Regards,
Sriram.
here the link to m.2 SSD : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2
more about both here :  https://sapphirenation.net/ssd-drives-part-connectors-interfaces-protocols/

check what connector it has (i suppose sata - not m.2) you can Always post a picture
